The first 3 icons are Bold, Italic, Underline. Simply highlight the word(s) with your mouse and click the relevant icon to apply the formatting. E.g. Bold, Italic, Underline.
The next 4 are for alignment of text. Most text alignments are preset in the site design so for the most part you will not need to use these buttons. However, you may wish to overwrite the defaults, so from left to right, these buttons are: left align, centre, right align and justify.
Text within your web page can be displayed as either a heading or paragraph text. The last button is a drop down box that contains these options when you click on the little down arrow. The list consists of 'paragraph, heading 1, heading 2 and heading 3'.
These 4 settings will have been set during your site design, so by highlighting a piece of text and selecting the relevant option, your text will be displayed in a specific and uniform way across your site.
